Do I need previous teaching experience?

No. This qualification is suitable for aspiring trainers and experienced professionals who want to develop their teaching skills. No previous teaching experience is required.

How long does the programme take?

Approximately 10–12 weeks. You’ll complete the online learning during the first month, then attend a full-day workshop in Kent. Approximately three weeks later, you’ll return for your micro-teaching assessment day. You’ll also complete written assignments with tutor guidance and feedback.

Do I need to attend both face-to-face days?

Yes. Both the practical workshop and the micro-teaching assessment day are mandatory. Please check that you can attend both dates for your chosen cohort before booking. If the dates don’t work for you, our blended online programme may be a better option.

What happens if I miss my micro-teach session?

Please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss your options. You must complete the assessed micro-teach to achieve the qualification, so missing your scheduled session may delay your completion.

Why is face-to-face delivery only available in Kent?

We’re launching our open face-to-face cohorts in Kent and will be expanding into London. If you’d like to attend a London cohort, please contact us to register your interest. We’ll keep you updated as locations and dates are confirmed.

Is there an exam?

No. The qualification is assessed through written assignments and a practical micro-teaching session.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Once you successfully complete the assessments, you’ll receive your Level 3 Award in Education and Training certificate from Highfield Qualifications.

What is a micro-teach?

A micro-teach is a short, assessed teaching session that you deliver to other learners on your course. It gives you the opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate a lesson in a supportive environment.

You’ll deliver a minimum of 15 minutes of teaching, observed and assessed against the qualification criteria. You’ll also take part as a learner in your peers’ sessions.

You choose a subject you know well, prepare a lesson plan and supporting resources, check that learning has taken place, and reflect on your delivery afterwards. The focus is on developing and demonstrating your skills, rather than being word perfect.

What can I do after I complete AET?

AET provides a foundation for delivering workplace training, inductions, workshops and other learning sessions. You could use your skills to support training within your organisation or explore opportunities in teaching and training.

You can also consider further teaching, assessing or quality assurance qualifications. The most suitable next step will depend on your goals, experience and access to teaching or assessment opportunities.

Who is the course certificated by?

The qualification is certificated by Highfield Qualifications, an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation. Emblem Training Solutions is an approved Highfield centre, so successful learners receive a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training consists of three core units designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to plan, deliver and assess effective learning.

Unit 1 – Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training

This unit explores what it means to be an effective trainer and educator. You will learn about:

• The roles and responsibilities of a trainer

• Professional boundaries and expectations

• Equality, diversity and inclusion

• Creating safe and supportive learning environments

• Legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice

• Working with other professionals and knowing when to refer learners for additional support

  
  

Unit 2 – Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training

This unit focuses on how people learn and how to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences. You will learn how to:

• Understand different teaching and learning approaches

• Create an inclusive learning environment

• Motivate and engage learners

• Meet individual learner needs

• Plan effective learning sessions

• Select appropriate teaching methods and resources

• Communicate effectively with learners

• Deliver and evaluate inclusive teaching sessions

As part of this unit, you will plan and deliver a short micro-teaching session and reflect on your own practice as a trainer.

Unit 3 – Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

This unit develops your understanding of assessment and feedback within education and training. You will learn about:

• The purpose of assessment

• Different assessment methods and approaches

• The strengths and limitations of assessment methods

• Involving learners in the assessment process

• Providing constructive and developmental feedback

• Recording and tracking learner progress

• Using assessment to support learning and development

• Putting Your Learning into Practice

Throughout the programme, you'll apply your learning to practical scenarios, workplace situations and real-life examples. Through interactive eLearning, tutor-led workshops and your micro-teaching session, you'll develop the confidence and skills needed to deliver effective learning and training in a range of settings.

There are no formal entry requirements for the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and no previous teaching experience is required.

However, as part of the enrolment process, all learners are required to complete a short initial skills check in English and digital skills. This helps us understand your starting point and identify any additional support you may need to successfully complete the qualification.

The skills check is not a test and there is no pass or fail. It simply helps us ensure that every learner receives the support they need throughout the programme.
